Thadston clears his throat.
Thadston reads over his parchment.
Thadston says, "Emperor Aurmont Anodheles was crowned in 5103, unmarried and with no heir. He spent some of his early life as a squire at the Demonwall, before realizing a martial life was not his calling. Before becoming Emperor, he spent a decade at the Chantry College in Nydds, in South Hendor."
Thadston says, "During his time of study, which focused on imperial history, he met a young woman by the name of Samynthra Kestrel Wierlund. Their mutual embrace of education and history and good-hearted nature instantly provided a spark among the two, but she was too young at the time to be anything more to Aurmont than a politically arranged marriage, something he wouldn't have wanted at the time."
Thadston says, "Years later, duty to the Turamzzyrian Empire called Aurmont away as he was appointed the new Emperor and took the seat of the Sun Throne following the assassination and scandal of Empress Mynal'lyanna. It would be nearly thirteen years later, when Emperor Aurmont and Samynthra would once again meet during her visit as a political dignitary from South Hendor to the capitol of Tamzzyr, seeking to gain further imperial aid for Hendor during the War of Shadows in 5114. Truth be told, while it was the first time they had seen each other in over a decade, there had been the occasional letters shared between them over the years. Having her once again close by, and now a woman of 30 years old, Emperor Aurmont has asked for her hand in marriage."
Thadston put a crisp ivory parchment in his brown leather cloak.
Thadston says, "The Emperor's Small Ministry and other loyal supporters are strongly in favor of the wedding, as they fully recognize the danger of an unmarried and heirless ruler upon the Sun Throne, especially in the aftermath of a devastating war. Because her mother was a Kestrel, and her father a Wierlund, the political advantages and strength of the marriage are also appealing to the Emperor's advisers."
Thadston clenches his jaw.
Thadston says, "So it is with great pride that the Turamzzyrian Empire has announced the upcoming wedding of Emperor Aurmont Anodheles and Lady Samynthra Kestrel Wierlund! The ceremony will take place on Feastday, the 22nd of Phoenatos, 5114 at 8:00 pm Empire Time."
Thadston says, "5115, I mispoke."
Thadston says, "Imperial heralds have already been dispatched, blanketing all areas of the Turamzzyrian Empire and even some crossing the DragonSpine Mountains to offer formal invitations to the people of the Elven Nations. With distance and war-torn regions a factor, the Hall of Mages will be providing magical portals in the towns of Wehnimer s Landing and Solhaven to allow those outside of the Empire for safer and quicker travel to the festivities."
Thadston says, "All Hail Emperor Aurmont Anodheles, Long May He Reign...."
Speaking to Thadston, Puptilian asks, "How long will the festivities be?"
Speaking to Thadston, Puptilian asks, "How long will the portal be open?"
Thadston says, "The portal will open on the 19th of Phoenatos, and close a few hours after the wedding ceremony, on the 22nd."
Thadston says, "I am of the understanding there will be a highly controlled and secure area, within the Temple of Steps, overlooking the ceremony."
Thadston says, "Access in the imperial plaza will be very, very limited. Much of the Temple, and all of the Imperial Palace will be off limits. Understandably."
Speaking to Thadston, Puptilian says, "Actually Sir Thadston I do have a question for you."
Thadston asks, "Yes Mayor?"
Speaking to Thadston, Puptilian asks, "Some parts of the Empire look with hate towards this town for various reasons. Will the safetly of my people be gaurenteed as long as they are on good behavor themselves?"
Thadston says, "Earl Jovery has left Vornavis, en route to Tazzyrrr."
Thadston says, "Yes, with good behavior, there would be no issues."
Puptilian says, "For all of you that hate the Empire or think the Empire needs to leave us alone. Think of this. You go cause trouble you will bring trouble back. I hope that we can all go there and conduct yourselves in your best manners."
Thadston asks, "Any other questions regarding this...wedding I have missed?"
Thadston says, "You underestimate the power and means of the Empire."
Thadston says, "I will not be attending the wedding, I will remain here, ever guarding the region. The invitation is just that, an opportunity, not a command. It is hardly a trap."
Thadston says, "I strongly approve of the marriage."
Thadston says, "An unmarried Emperor with no heir is a high risk that has been long overdue to be fixed."
Thadston asks, "Shall we now continue our debate then, of trade and Rooks?"
Thadston asks, "Shall we this time, move to the assembly room?"
Thadston peers quizzically at Puptilian.
Speaking to Thadston, Puptilian says, "Sure."
Thadston moves over to a long table, and sits down.
(Puptilian walks to the long table and sits opposite of Thadston.)
Thadston asks, "Has your townspeople bee made aware of the...opportunity presented?"
Puptilian says, "Aye they did but why dont you speak your terms again for those that may not know."
Thadston says, "I have had a detailed report drawn up regarding the titles and names of influential members of trade within Mestanir and Jantalar, as well as my recommendations for expanded trade between those provinces, and your own region. Furthermore, I have scribed a letter fully supporting renewed, and expanded trade with Wehnimer's Landing, which is in direct opposition of Lord Brieson's report after Earl Kestrel's murder. However, my word, my recommendation, holds more weight."
Thadston says, "In exchange for this, I seek full control for a short period of time to allow myself, and my soldiers to conduct operations inside town, and beneath it, to help take the fight to the Brotherhood of Rooks. Once we've achieved some benchmark victories, we will then engage your town militia on all further operations."
Thadston says, "There you have it."
And that's when the fight started...
There was so much talking for so long I am only going to include comments from Thadston and Puptilian
Puptilian says, "And as we left it a few nights ago...."
Puptilian says, "I agreed to allow Hendor free run of the Rooks outside the gates and underground."
Puptilian says, "However, we were at a disagreement of the part about being inside the gates."
Puptilian says, "That is where we left it."
Thadston says, "I do. We've some operations we are preparing for, once some of the initial heavy lifting so to speak is done, we will then be at a point where the chance for corruption is low, and we will shore up the efforts with the town militia. Ideally, us augmenting the militia will be less and less, as they grow further into their own."
Thadston says, "There remains in the militia a number of suspected Rook members, or sympathizers."
Speaking to Thadston, Puptilian says, "I have heard from many people, the council, and the townspeople."
Puptilian says, "And for the most part many agree to these parts...."
Puptilian says, "First that the Rooks are a trouble to the growth of this town."
Puptilian says, "And one that we need to deal with."
Puptilian says, "And Second, that the growth of trade is greatly needed to fully recover from the years of war."
Puptilian says, "That said...."
Puptilian says, "One thing almost everyone agreed to is this."
Puptilian says, "We will not give up free reign to Hendor for the recommendation to trade. Trade is one of the most important things I ran on an dpromised but I can not in good faith to these people just let you run free."
Puptilian says, "With that I do have a counter proposal i want you to hear."
Puptilian says, "Your worry is sound."
Puptilian says, "There are many ears in town and many people...some amoung us that do listen for the Rooks."
Puptilian says, "I understand that and I understand the troubles that brings to the table."
Thadston turns an inquisitive ear toward Puptilian.
Puptilian says, "That said I have to listen to my people and several came up with a good solution I think we can agree to this."
Puptilian says, "I bring to you the idea of all missions having a joint venture. To do this we need to have trusted people from both sides and people we both know will not give intelligence to the Rooks."
Puptilian says, "To do this, I would like to nominate that the Gryphons work with the Hendors in the initial raids and as trust is built we can bring on more of the milita."
Puptilian says, "In doing this I believe both sides can show trust in this."
Thadston says, "While I respect your attempt to find a common ground, we will likely lose more time than we can afford, trying to come to terms on an agreed list of trusted individuals."
Thadston says, "Furthermore, if I need the Gryphon Knights to augment our efforts, it is not your permission I need, with all due respect Mayor."
Speaking to Thadston, Puptilian says, "I know that but I bring forth this solution that is a common ground both sides can agree to."
Thadston says, "The only compromise I will put forward, is perhaps agreeing to an established time frame, of sole Hendoran operations. Certainty, there is concern of when the transition will begin, when will the benchmarks be reached."
Thadston says, "If I am unable to achieve my goals in a specific amount of time, I frankly do not deserve further time permitted, and will immediately engage the militia, and those trusted in this town."
Puptilian says, "Then I guess we are not at a place to agree. I think we all here agree we can't just let Hendor run wild in town. For that we will do what I been working with our Marshal on. We will work with our plans against the Rooks."
Thadston says, "Any prisoners apprehended, or any who surrender, will be immediately turned over to the Landing authorities, and face trial in your town, among your peers, amidst your laws."
Speaking to Thadston, Puptilian says, "And those people will be arrested by my militia. I wasn't voted in to give even temporary control of peace to this town to anyone else. As I said many times, this is a Landing issue, we will deal with it on our own."
Thadston says, "Then let us hope you have as many farmers as you do militia, and rooks."
Speaking to Thadston, Puptilian says, "You are still more then willing to work with my people but they will be leading any attack on the rooks inside these gates."
Thadston says, "Not surprising, given the criminal element and twisted code of the Landing Defense Irregulars."
Puptilian recites:
"Calm yourselves everyone. All this bickering and petty words do nothing to push forward this dicussion. "
Thadston says, "I only seek temporary full control, of all operations aimed at the Brotherhood of Rooks. The reason for this, is security and success of the mission. We believe there are still rogue elements existing within the militia, so engaging them now, is folly."
Speaking to Thadston, Puptilian says, "What about this."
Speaking to Thadston, Puptilian asks, "Do you trust that you and I both agree to wanting the Rooks gone?"
Thadston says, "I believe, we can accomplish some operations of ours, quite swiftly, and in a short amount of time, fully engage the town militia, and local adventurers for further missions."
Thadston says, "Originally, yes. You give me pause now."
Thadston nods at Puptilian.
Speaking to Thadston, Puptilian says, "Lets stop dancing around the bush here. I want them gone too."
Thadston says, "I find my offer reasonable, and I feel you pander too much to opinion and likes or dislikes, then doing what needs to be done, to get the job done."
Thadston nods at Puptilian.
Speaking to Thadston, Puptilian asks, "I assume you have a home or Manor back in Hendor correct?"
Thadston says, "You are the Mayor. Not the Ball Dance King."
Speaking to Thadston, Puptilian says, "I doubt you want me going to Hendor and deciding what to do when to do it."
Speaking to Thadston, Puptilian says, "So lets get back to this new proposal in good faith and stop the barbs."
Puptilian recites:
"And that goes for everyone. Please let me counter offer without the barbs at him....please"
Thadston says, "Full control? It is temporary control. Period. Of strategic operations aimed at the Rooks."
Thadston says, "We will not be patrolling the streets. We will not be arresting your criminals, we won't be using your barracks, we'll be striking at Rook dens, and exposing those in the shadows."
Speaking to Thadston, Puptilian says, "Listen to this please."
Speaking to Thadston, Puptilian says, "We both want the rooks gone. You have several goals for doing so."
Speaking to Thadston, Puptilian says, "To do that, you tell me your plans. When it will happen, where it will happen and what your objectives are for that raid."
Thadston says, "Too sensitive, at this juncture. But a time table can be agreed upon."
Thadston says, "Your Order's name has been restored, I still hold command over the region. Not of your Order, but of those with oaths to Earl Jovery, sworn to him, or moved to him."
Puptilian recites:
"Ok everyone....how can I give him a counter if you all talk over me. Please give me a moment"
Puptilian says, "As I was saying...."
Speaking to Thadston, Puptilian says, "We both want the rooks gone. You have several goals for doing so."
Speaking to Thadston, Puptilian says, "To do that, you tell me your plans. When it will happen, where it will happen and what your objectives are for that raid."
Puptilian says, "I will give a final yes or no if it will go forward."
Puptilian says, "Also."
Thadston smirks.
Thadston says, "No."
Puptilian says, "Have it be the Marshal or some other representative to go with you."
Puptilian says, "That way we know you are doing what you say you will do."
Puptilian says, "These people trust me to make the right choice."
Thadston says, "I do not believe you fully understand how the Brotherhood of Rooks operates, and how quickly they do. Perhaps that is why all of your policies and actions have been more reactive, and less proactive."
Puptilian says, "And if they know I am making them some will grumble but most will agree with my choices."
(Puptilian stands up and places his hands on the table as he leans over.)
Speaking to Thadston, Puptilian says, "And you dont understand these people Sir Thadston."
Puptilian says, "These people need trust."
Puptilian says, "You dont bring it to them."
Puptilian says, "I give you an avenue for that trust."
Thadston says, "When we gain information regarding the Rooks, it is often highly, highly sensitive based on time. Time our forces will not have to knock upon your door, stir you, lay out a twelve point plan, wait for your approval, wait for an orc, build a boat, weave a coat...."
Puptilian says, "They trust me. that is one of the reasons I was elected."
Puptilian says, "You come in and do what you want when you want then you will drive more people to the Roooks."
Puptilian says, "Because they will see you as an invader."
Thadston says, "Hardly. With your approval, it will not be seen as such. But mind you, it matters little."
Puptilian says, "You see me as a way to hold you back. You are far wrong on that."
Thadston says, "Whether you approval or not, if I underwent such action, those who wish to complain, will."
Thadston says, "No, it matters little to the Rooks, or those who sympathize with them."
Speaking to Thadston, Puptilian says, "You think so but ask these people. I bet you most of them will feel better knowing I approve of these actions."
Speaking to Thadston, Puptilian says, "I give you a way to both crush the rooks and show these people there is trust between the two people. This is on you that you will not compromise for the betterment of both of our people."
Thadston walks off into the distance.
Puptilian shrugs.
Puptilian says, "I dont think I was unreasonable here."
Thadston says, "When I speak of it matters little, thatis in reference to those who would cry invasion."
Thadston says, "Hell, I am not doing any operations right now, and already people are crying invasion."
Thadston smirks.
Speaking to Thadston, Puptilian says, "You have a job. I get that. i have a job too. That is to protect these people. I give you a very REASONABLE option that gives you almost everything you want with very little compremise from us."
Thadston says, "Your concerns are of paramount importance."
Speaking to Thadston, Puptilian asks, "You would be building a bridge here instead of buring it down. What is so hard about that?"
Thadston says, "Severely wounding the Brotherhood of Rooks, is a huge boon to your town, both from a means of safety, and in trade."
Speaking to Thadston, Puptilian says, "And pissing off half the town and swelling the ranks of the Rooks would make things worse."
Speaking to Thadston, Puptilian says, "Lets defeat them together."
Thadston says, "I would ask for two weeks, my soldiers and I will conduct operations in your town, and mostly below. After that, we will engage the town militia, and your heroes, to conduct further operations. Then additionally in time, all operations will be run by your town militia, you are in the process of bringing on new militia members and Captains, are you not? A perfect time for Hendor to remain outside, only as a friendly blade or shield, if needed, and called upon."
Puptilian sighs.
Thadston says, "Already I am offering something that has the chance to endanger the operation, by simply listing a time table. But I understand your concerns, and I too wish to engage the town militia as soon as we can."
Speaking to Thadston, Puptilian says, "I get you feel like you need full control. You are only seeing your goals. I have to worry about the after affects. where you think you will win the day all you will do is drag more people into the open arms of the Rooks."
Speaking to Thadston, Puptilian says, "I tried many times to give you a solution this town would accept. One that for once everyone here agrees with. Does that not give you pause? Everone here agrees."
Puptilian stares at Thadston.
Thadston says, "I am sorry...I came here to try to discuss this simply...and while I try to understand your concerns...there is one question I cannot seem to grasp an answer to."
Thadston asks, "Do you truly, honestly believe, if I sought control over your town, I would parade in here on multiple occasions and ASK you?"
Thadston chuckles.
Thadston says, "Do the Brotherhood of Rooks hold gatherings in offices and assembly rooms before they threaten your merchants, burn warehouses, kill townspeople, intimidate, murder..."
Thadston says, "I am willing to put my own men in the line of danger, and you cry about freedom that you believe you are losing...."
Thadston says, "The only thing you are losing is control to the criminal elements in this town."
Thadston says, "Many regions of the Empire will not trade, so long as some threats remain."
Thadston says, "I will not lend my word to such trade agreements, and Lord Brieson's report so far, holds some influence. Influence I can override."
Speaking to Thadston, Puptilian says, "Lets try again to bring a compremise here Sir Thadston."
Speaking to Thadston, Puptilian says, "One week. You get free run on the tunnels and any nest outside the gate. Prove to us what you say you are doing in taking down the rooks. Show these people you are series and honorable and a man of your word."
Speaking to Thadston, Puptilian says, "Then we can come back here and see where both sides stand on your actions."
Thadston says, "The Brotherhood of Rooks will take far more to be extinsguished. The two weeks I ask for, is merely to lay some groundwork, accomplish specific targets unhindered, and then fully bring in the town heroes and militia for cooperation and joint efforts."
Thadston looks over at Puptilian and shakes his head.
Thadston says, "No."
Thadston says, "I will not drive a wedge into a Rooks Den, and then cease pursuit, if they run up into the streets."
Puptilian says, "Then my answer...as mayor of this town is no. I gave you several reasonable request. A way to compremise."
Puptilian says, "Its on you that you will not compremise."
Thadston says, "Especially when likely there are Rooks, or sympathizers in this very room, knowledgeable of my limits."
Puptilian says, "And if I find any of your men going after any person in side the walls of this town, criminal or not...I will have them arrested and tried for crimes to the people of the Landing."
Puptilian says, "I'm sorry but this you brought on yourself. I tried to bridge a gap you refuse to help."
Thadston asks, "Occupy?"
Thadston says, "We will be entering to wage war on criminals. We are not stealing your land, eating your food, capturing your women...."
Speaking to Thadston, Puptilian says, "I think these talks are at an end then. My answer also is no. You can do what you want outside the gates and in the tunnels. The town proper I will deal with."
Thadston says, "All those apprehended, or those who surrender, will face Landing justice."
Thadston says, "The audacity of an officer of the LDI lecturing me on trust and criminal elements and bad intentions..."
Puptilian shakes his head.
Speaking to Cryheart, Puptilian says, "When he is done trying to answer everyone at once please let him know I tried to compremise and I tried to work with him. Its not my fault if he is too stubborn to understand when its best to compriemise."
Speaking to Cryheart, Puptilian says, "Oh and see him out the gates please."
and later...
Thadston says, "You fail to understand..."
Thadston says, "My request for two weeks, is not that I do not trust the town."
Thadston says, "I do not trust the Rooks."
